Henryk GÓRECKI (1933-2010) String Quartets Nos 1 & 2, Genesis I: Elementi - Tippett Qt rec. 2017 NAXOS 8.573919 [60.54] [MW] The Tippett Quartet capture both the steeliness and humanity of this demanding but endlessly fascinating music.

Christoph GRAUPNER (1683-1760) Concertos & Ouvertures - l'arpa festante/Rien Voskuilen rec. 2017 ACCENT ACC24350 [73:29] [TB] Relatively little of Graupner's music has been recorded, so this new issue can be warmly welcomed.

Gustav MAHLER (1860-1911) Symphony No. 3 - Anna Larsson (contralto), Düsseldorfer Symphoniker/Ádám Fischer rec. 2017 CAVI-MUSIC 8553399 [95.51] [MC] A performance of real sincerity but with some ordinary moments that prevent it joining the elevated top league.
