Irene is fairly new to the scene: her first professional engagements were not till 2003 and the Latin Jazz Band is even more recent. Irene's name is Irene Nachreiner and it would appear that the release of this CD was her own initiative. She is an extremely well-educated lady with a broad range of skills; she comes from a family for which music is important, but not as a way of making a living. She is also a linguist as well as a talented songwriter; several items on this CD are her own compositions. Her Latin Jazz Band is a very talented group of musicians of which Scott Martin is outstanding on tenor and flute.

Irene is a talented vocalist, she has good timing, intonation and diction, but is she a jazz vocalist? Probably not, but that should not detract from her performance. Many famous US vocalists, Doris Day and Rosemary Clooney for example, were not jazz singers but they are very pleasant to listen to.

This is a very pleasant programme of music that I shall certainly listen to again!
