This compilation is Volume 3 of the Sidney Bechet Series. After a short break from playing in 1938, to run a tailoring shop, Bechet re-established himself on the jazz scene. These twenty tracks begin with those made for Vocalion in 1938 by Sidney Bechet & His Orchestra. Track 12 is a trio spot featuring Bechet on clarinet, Earl Hines, piano and Baby Dodds on drums. The remaining 15 tracks, cut between February, 1940 and April, 1941 feature Sidney Bechet & His New Orleans Feetwarmers and feature many of Bechet’s when known contemporaries including Sidney de Paris, Rex Stewart, Henry ‘Red’ Allen, Wellman Braud and J. C. Higginbotham.

Here Bechet is at his best, whether on clarinet or soprano saxophone, his powerful sound and weaving interchanges show what a genius this mainly self-taught jazz legend was. He was a master technician and recognized by his peers as a musician who made a valuable contribution to the New Orleans tradition.
