This is a live concert recording from Jazz Open Stuttgart
in 1994. The group are billed as masters of jazz-fusion. They aim
to fuse subtle Indian rhythms with elements of modern jazz and rock.
The concert was conceived to illustrate the common musical ground
shared between different cultures.
The problem with fusion is that whilst the desire
is to take the best elements of each musical form, it is very easy
for it to start to combine the worst elements. This group are probably
more successful than most Trilok Gurtu, certainly brings many new
facets to the music with some interesting percussion work.
No doubt fans of fusion will enjoy this, but it was
not for me.
