This eight volume in the Brilliant Classics complete
Mozart edition includes all the sacred works that Mozart composed, from
the well-known Requiem to lesser works, such as the many short liturgical
songs he wrote. This set is graced by the excellent Nordic Chamber Choir,
who previously recorded an excellent set of Bach’s sacred songs for
          Brilliant Classics.

While this part of Mozart’s output was certainly not
his most impressive, not his most distinctive, his sound gives interesting
results with sacred music. He explored a wide range of works, from the
Requiem, to masses, to vespers and sacred songs.

While the Requiem in this set is good, it has little
to put it among the best recordings of this work. The soloists are good,
but not excellent, though the choir shines in this recording. But, apart
from the Requiem, this is one of the most satisfying sets that Brilliant
Classics has released so far in their complete Mozart series. The tenor
of the various works ranges from energetic to sedate, and the Nordic
Chamber Choir gives excellent performances in all of them. The overall
tone of this set is very homogeneous, and listeners can discover some
fine minor works, such as the Regina Coelis, the Litanies and the Liturgical
          Songs.

This set is a very good collection of Mozart’s sacred
music. While some of the works deserve better, such as the Requiem,
for which there is no want of choices available, others shine, and the
Nordic Chamber Choir is excellent throughout. At the bargain price of
this set, a wealth of discoveries await you.
