HAYDN FESTIVAL at EISENSTADT SEPTEMBER 2001
You are invited to join a one-week holiday in Eisenstadt, about 30 miles
south of Vienna, for the annual Haydn Festival in September.

Joseph Haydn lived and worked at Eisenstadt for thirty years, as Court Composer
and Conductor to the rich and famous Esterhazy family at their splendid Schloss
from 1761 to 1790. He died in 1809 in Vienna, but he is buried in the Bergkirche
in Eisenstadt where his Mausoleum may be seen.
Almost all the Concerts of the ten-day Festival are held in the Schloss.
Tickets have been booked for the Opera, and eight concerts and recitals,
from September 10th to the end of the Festival on September 16th.
Accommodation has been reserved in the very comfortable four-star Hotel
Burgenland. The Hotel is a few minutes' walk from the centre of the attractive
town and the Schloss Esterhazy. It has its own swimming pool.
The price of the holiday is £850. This includes Air Fares to Vienna
by Austrian Airlines; travel by minibus from Vienna to Eisenstadt, and return,
and as needed at Eisenstadt; accommodation and breakfasts at the Hotel Burgenland
for 7 nights; and good tickets for the Opera and all concerts and recitals,
from September 10th to 16th. NOT included are meals other than breakfast
and Insurance.
The surrounding countryside is attractive - especially at the time of the
wine harvest! - and help is available in planning day excursions, with maps
and advice, some use of the minibus (or local transport) and even cycle hire.
The Hotel has its own excellent Restaurant, and there are many Restaurants,
Cafés and Pubs in the town and surrounding area.
Subject to confirmation, the outward flight is from Heathrow at 12.50 on
Monday September 10th (arrive 16.10); and the return flight is from Vienna
at 10.40 on Monday September 17th (arrive 12.10)
