It is a pity that there are so many gaps and question marks left in the body of oeuvre of Bortkiewicz. Many may have been irrevocably lost during the events of World War II. Bortkiewicz, who had a great admiration for Tschaikowsky, also published the following book, referred to several times in his letters to van Dalen:
