This is a pleasing showcase for the vocal artistry of Inessa (originally Inesse) Galante, the Latvian soprano discovered by Campion and DI Music. Her voice has a satisfying richness and the effect overall is very pleasant indeed. It is perhaps compromised a tad by a not uncommon characteristic of the operatic soprano: blurred enunciation. I had great difficulty in making out some of the words. This is a pity as the other soprano bug-bear (vibrato) is delightfully absent. Galante makes a wonderful sound and conveys the impression of youth so often lost by the great and venerated names. Campion's choice of repertoire is not commanding. Such a pity that this was not a disc in which Galante explored highlights of Baltic states opera. I would like to hear Galante in more substantial fare. This disc is agreeable but not compelling.
