This vault release by McCOY is most notable for its historical
significance in that the pairing of Paul Samson (SAMSON) and John McCoy
(GILLAN), were two of the most important names of all that is hard and
heavy in English music of the early eighties.
The sound quality of this disc is a bit dodgy, a very good bootleg
really, but the performances of the trio of musicians that were McCOY
bleeds straight though any fuzziness. Here you can find protean version
of what would later become SAMSON staples as well as bits and pieces of
later McCOY works done live in a small pub in Reading England. The
significance of having the recorded at this venue and in front of a
handful of people is that it would only be a few years later that both
John Mcoy and Paul Samson would, with different groups, be performing
landmark concerts at the Reading festival just down the road in front of
a few hundred thousand people.
So, British Rock history buffs, here is a bit, 70 minutes and eight
pages, of pre New Wave of British Heavy Metal nostalgia for ya everyone
else, well, this is a good disc to own if you already have everything
else by both McCOY and SAMSON.
