Moonstone- (France) S/T (2000 Broceliande)
I'm getting more goodies from France the last 4 months and within different genres of Metal which is a good thing when it comes to doing reviews. This 4-piece is fronted by a female vocalist and they fall into the Melodic Rock/Metal realm with some Goth influence and remind me alot of the Czech Republic's Dying Passion; even the sound of the band is similiar but Moonstone's is a bit cleaner. 10 tracks in more of a mainstream light of Doro,Saraya and Lee Aaron with good songwriting which is due to thband's 8-year existence despite interruptions within their personnel. Isabella, the band's bassist during the recording of this CD, left to become a full-time mom and kind of makes you wonder what's in store for Moonstone down the road since lead vocalist, Paula Guittard just gave birth recently to a bouncing baby boy and everyone knows you can't do the music thing on the road and raise a family; I can be wrong but I haven't seen a hgh percentage of it happening. On a final note, if everything stays in order for the band, their talent alone is quite signable for labels but since the music is somewhat 80's, it will be a hard road to travel on and you have to respect them for playing what they love and enjoy; an indie label from Europe would be the best bet since the labels over here in the U.S. are signing all the "nu-metal" bands no matter if they are a dime a dozen and all sound the same. Moonstone's presskit was one of the more impressive ones I received in while with the exceptio of 90% of it was in French...didn't help me much in reading other people's opinions but a thick scrapbook for sure including a diagram of their equipment set-up which is the first time I ever saw a band do that in a press kit. They have their heads on straight musically and promotionally. |
