Salacious Gods - Sunnevot
It
is a very rare event when a new black metal band manages to impress me
but the Dutch Salacious Gods have hereby accomplished the (evidently almost)
impossible task of doing so. Their second album "Sunnevot" contains everything
needed in order to make a black metal creation complete: great christcrushing
music, unearthly vocals that doesn't annoy you and an evil atmosphere.
This is perhaps not a groundbreaking release but if you like this kind
of music you will not be disappointed with this album. Just check out
the sheer intensity and insane speed riffing on "Twaeduster Night" and
enjoy. Salacious Gods made their debut album "Askengris" unique with the
use of an old Dutch dialect for their lyrics but they have hereby proven
once and for all that they are capable of so much more than writing lyrics
that noone will understand. The new album has also been honoured with
two guest appearances from Jens of God Dethroned and Marco from The Wounded.
Salacious Gods is a great band at their best moments and reminds me slightly
of older Old Man's Child but they do tend to fall into the monotony trap
a little too often to be playing in the same league. I am pretty confident
though that this band will continue to grow and develop in the future.
The monumental artwork was created by Jarek Msniewski (Vader, Raebelliun
etc.).
