In Flames - Whoracle
Nuclear Blast, 1997
9/10
Vincent Eldefors

The kings of Swedish melodic death metal have yet not disappointed me with any of their albums and they are only becoming better with each new release (I'm not saying this just because I'm from Sweden...). Sharp guitar riffs, a heavy flow that pushes each song forward all the way to the end and some of the best death metal vox around makes every new album from In Flames unforgettable. "Whoracle" doesn´t have that thick and clean production as the last two albums but it is still great. What makes In Flames so special from other death metal bands is their ability to incorporate beautiful, complex and often subtle melodies in their music in a way no other band does it. The lyrics are as usual abstract and very hard to grasp the real meaning of. A great album although compared to "Colony" and "Clayman", the next two releases from the band, the sound is a little thin.
