Talk about limiting your audience! Swedish rock bands covering other, older Swedish rock bands? Brilliant, if for no other reason than the fact that the songs are perfect and the recreation of them by today's bands is astoundingly well done. I can't say that I have ever even seen a compilation of Swedish rock songs let alone something this grand in scope but after listening to this it simply must be done!
IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL, THE HAUNTED and MESHUGGAH are the heavy hitters on the international scene and they lend their ample ability to each of their chosen tracks but the other eleven bands involved deserve equal accolades for their participation as there is not a bad one in the batch.
LOCOMOTIVE BREATH's is nothing if not stellar. Why this group hasn't already had greater exposure to the ears of the world is beyond comprehension. The same could be said for the incomparable LION'S SHARE. LION'S SHARE is the best Swedish export, ever save for their beautiful Nordic ladies! To be fare I should name a few more; LOST SOULS, ENTOMBED, TRANSPORT LEAGUE, GLORY, (Yngwie Malmsteen are you listening to this? You should be!) THE CROWN, GOOSEFLESH, TREASURE LAND, THE QUILL and SOUTHPAW all contribute the highest quality Swedish rock imaginable.
The purpose of these records is to expose younger bands and that purpose is well served here. Can't wait to hear Volume 2!
