Taking advantage of the slight respite in DREAM THEATER activity Jordan Rudess got back to his synths and computers with some ideas that wouldn't likely be used in his regular DT gig. The results are interesting, fun and occasionally impressive but mostly self indulgent and then not the kind of indulgence that will titillate even the most open of Progsters. "FEEDING THE WHEEL" sounds very much like the RPM disc that Rudess did a few years ago with Rod Morgenstein but where that disc succeeded with a bit of give and take this is all give, give, give and no take. I may be holding Rudess to a higher level of expectation than some of his contemporaries and for that there is no apology, Rudess is the best guy out there now and I just wish that I could get into this more but ultimately it is a window to a stroke-fest and I am just not that much of a voyeur.
