Wilfred Josephs: Clarinet Sonata No.2 op. 149
i. Moderato Intermezzo Wilfred Josephs writes: "When Brahms wrote his first clarinet sonata he so fell in love with the instrument that he wrote a second sonata immediately afterwards. What was good enough for him is certainly good enough for me. I wrote my first clarinet sonata for Martin Powell between 8th September 1987 and 7th March 1988, and went right on, on 20th March with another movement which turned out to be not an extra-to-last movement of the first sonata, but the opening movement of the second sonata. The work is dedicated to Martin Powell who gave its premiere at the Harrogate International Festival in 1990. Other works on this disc
Claude Debussy
André Messager
Francis Poulenc
Camille Saint-Saens
Stravinsky
