(In the 1950s domestic services consisted of the Home Service (talk, politics, news), Light Programme (light entertainment) and the Third programme (serious entertainment and music)

  • Speech Day, Oxford Union, December 1958 "Life begins at 38" with the famous Bricklayer story and the hotelier offering French widows in every bedroom.
