Competitions

The winner of our competition for two tickets for the March London Jerry Goldsmith tickets was Andy Dickenson from Bristol. Andy will be taking his young son who is just developing an interest in film and film music, and they are particularly looking forward to hearing Star Trek: Nemesis.

New Thunderbirds Competition

Thinking any obvious answers would be found on-line in a few seconds I obviously made last month's Thunderbirds competition too difficult and as a result there were no winners! Sorry about that. So, in the interests of giving away two copies of Silva Screen's superb album - see our review here - simply email me at gsdalkin.fmw@btopenworld.com with your suggestion for the ideal composer for the forthcoming Thunderbirds movie. Explain why he or she should score the movie and the most thoughtful, imaginative, provocative or just plain interesting two entries will win. Please remember to include your postal address. Closing date: April 10 2003.

The Day The Earth Stood Still

Thanks to Pinnacle Records we have three copies of the new Varèse Sarabande re-recording of Bernard Herrmann's landmark science fiction score The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951). Joel McNeely conducts a unique ensemble including two Hammond organs, electric guitar, violin, cello and bass, brass section, two pianos, theremin but no string section. The album is VSD-6314 and is being reviewed on Film Music on the Web this month (March 2003).

For a chance to win a copy email me at gsdalkin.fmw@btopenworld.com with your suggestion as to the most under-rated science fiction score. Tell me your reasons why and you may find an album winging its way to you. Please remember to include your postal address. Closing date: April 10 2003.
