Mario Lanza sings …My Romance
RCA VICTOR 09026 63751 2 [69:34]

In the main opera singers have not been particularly successful in crossing over into the world of popular music. Not so Mario Lanza who was just as much at home singing the golden standards listed below as hitting the high notes in Verdi or Puccini. He managed to make the songs sound fresh and new; and every word and phrase was delivered with sincerity and overwhelming enthusiasm. As Derek Mannering says in his booklet notes, "Lanza lived everything he sang."

This is a golden collection, compiled mostly from his weekly radio programme The Mario Lanza Show broadcast from Los Angeles in the early 1950s when his voice was at its best. His conductor for the sessions was Ray Sinatra, second cousin to another great song stylist.

Sit back, relax and enjoy - no star rating is necessary!
