Frank Manheim
Frank T. Manheim (D.Sc),
is an avocational classical music activist
and exponent of audience empowerment.
He has been a federal government research
scientist and is now on the faculty
of George Mason University (Fairfax
VA). Frank has served as a newspaper
music reviewer, program chairman and
organizer for the oldest music presentation
organization on Cape Cod Massachusetts,
and is a longterm member of the Society
for American Music. Publications include
musical biographies in the Encyclopedia
of American Biography (Oxford Univ.
Press), including a first biographical
account of Thomas Nassi, who had a distinguished
dual career as the father of Western
music's introduction to Albania, and
as a music educator and publisher in
the United States. Long essays on the
rise and role of electronic rock music,
and on the musical contributions of
Thomas Hart Benton (a noted American
painter) are in press or preparation.
He currently seeks to stay abreast of
reformist movements to rejuvenate classical
