WIENIAWSKI, Henryk
b Lublin, Poland, 10 July 1835
d Moscow, 31 March 1880, aged forty-four

Born of a musical family, he showed exceptional talent for the violin at a very early age. He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1843; then, apart from periods of teaching - 1860 to 1872 in St Petersburg and 1875 to 1877 at Brussels Conservatory - he toured widely as a master performer, despite a severe heart condition which ultimately killed him.
