He studied medicine and then trained as a dentist. He found time for composing and won a Gaudeamus Prize with a piano trio. After studying at the Guildhall School of Music he was awarded a Leverhulme Scholarship which took him to Paris for a year as a pupil of Max Deutsch. He has won first prize at the International Composition Competition in Milan and the Harriet Cohen Commonwealth Medal.
