FRESCOBALDI, Girolamo
b Ferrara, September 1583
d Rome, 1 March 1643, aged fifty-nine

He was a singer, organist and lutenist. In 1607 he was organist in a church in Rome, went to the Netherlands for a short time, and returned to Rome in 1609 to become organist at St Peter's. In 1628 he was appointed organist to the Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence; but in 1634 he returned again to St Peter's, where he stayed until his death.
