FARNABY, Giles
b c1563
Buried London, 25 November 1640, aged c seventy-seven

Like his father he was a joiner by trade. Since his father worked in London it is likely that Giles was born there, and it is certain he worked there at his trade. What little instruction he had in music was intermittent, yet he was able to graduate as Bachelor of Music at Oxford in 1592. Two years later he moved into the country, as teacher to the children of Sir Nicholas Saunderson in Lincolnshire. By 1614, however, he was back in London, pursuing the life of a composer.

1598 (c38)

p Canzonets to Foure Voyces

Farnaby also composed over fifty pieces in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book.
