DIAMOND, David

He first trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music from 1927 to 1929, then at the Eastman School of Music from 1930 to 1934. He later went to New York to study with Sessions and to Paris to study with Boulanger. In 1937 he won the Juillard Award, in 1938 and 1941 a Guggenheim Fellowship, in 1942 the Prix de Rome, and in 1943 the Paderewski Prize. He received many commissions, and in 1951 he went to Europe as a Fulbright professor and settled in Florence, remaining there until 1965. He then joined the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, but since 1967 has devoted his time exclusively to composition.
