He was organist at Lincoln Cathedral in 1563. In 1570 he was appointed Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, and at the end of 1572 he moved to London to become joint organist with Tallis at the Chapel Royal. In 1577 he moved to Middlesex, where his wife died. In 1593 he moved to Stondon Massey and remarried, his second wife dying in 1605.
