AURIC, Georges

After studying at the Montpellier Conservatory, he moved to Montmartre and became a pupil of d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum and of Gédalge at the Paris Conservatory, like Milhaud, Honegger and his exact contemporary Poulenc. In 1913 he met Satie, who influenced him greatly. He became leader of 'Les Six' the group of lively Paris-based musicians who, in the 1920s, were much helped and inspired by Cocteau. Auric was president of Lamoureux Concerts, and general administrator of the Paris Opera for six years. He has been elected to the Academie des Beaux-Arts, and now works as a critic.
