Sad to relate, the best thing about this CD is the stunning cover photo!
Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic is clearly a virtuoso percussionist, with marimba
as his speciality. The whole CD is devoted to his own compositions and too
much of this is tasteful and bland, tranquillo etc, and harmonically
unadventurous. The middle movement of his Trio per uno is 'an
isle of quietness between two volcanoes'. That piece, confusingly titled,
is for three players, who often have to work on the same instrument
simultaneously, an effect that would be more meaningful in live concert.
An 'easy listening' CD, not one for me - and a bit unexpected from BIS.
