Judith Bailey: Symphony No 2 Op. 24

The first sketches for this work were made in York Minster upon hearing the choir rehearsing against a background of bells tolling. The rhythms conflicted with each other but, at the same time, made a pattern worth jotting down. It was completed in 1982 and has four movements.

Orchestration: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in B flat, 2 bassoons, 2 horns in F, 2 trumpets in B flat, 3 trombones, timpani, strings.
