What they say about IRR
I propose an occasional series in praise of anything excellent that denies 'hype', public relations, gloss and celebrity. All my life I have collected records; first 78s, then LPs, now CDs. One of the attendant joys were record magazines. Lately, they have come with unwanted CDs stuck on them, puff interviews with glamorous female cellists, and attendant vulgarities. But a new one has just come out that resembles the Gramophone magazine in a loftier age. I have no pecuniary, or similar, interest in it, so I urge music lovers to buy International Record Review. It is distinguished .
Frank Johnson Daily Telegraph 29 April 2000
Your magazine is as good as you said it would be. I know you will be successful.
Peter Kermani Albany Music Distributors Inc.
At last, one that's not for dummies! .. music to the ears of classical music buffs.
Tamara Bernstein National Post Canada
In all my years in the classical music business, I have never seen such a brilliantly indexed and cross-referenced listing of composers, new releases and labels. It literally takes one's breath away to be able to pinpoint information in such an easy, accurate and time-saving fashion ..International Record Review is a resounding wake up call for an industry that has sorely needed such a rousing for at least the past several decades.
Larry A. Russell Eroica Classical Recordings
The in-depth reviews thankfully unshackled by other magazine's ridiculously inhibiting 100 - 200 word brevities are written enthusiastically by people who really know and enthuse about their subjects ..the new magazine has created an excellent impression.
Ian Lace Music on the Web (UK)
International Record Review looks like a magazine, feels like a magazine in that it stays open on your lap or reading table, and is so comprehensive that one suspects it will - unlike so many others - have a fine and long-term future. The first issue is chock full of thoughtful, well-written and thorough reviews of releases in all classical genres plus some other handy features, including a directory of record company websites, a compilation of new releases from literally all over, a short section on equipment, and -- wonder of wonders! -- a master index.
John W. Lambert Raleigh Durham Spectator
International Record Review shows a catholicity of taste sadly lacking in other British record review magazines. Contemporary music and esoteric repertoire are not cramped or restricted to single-paragraph reviews, and reviewers are clearly given considerable latitude in how they treat their subject. Clearly International Record Review is well set to become a major new addition to the roster of English-language music magazines It's lively, opinionated and thorough, eschewing most of the star-led feature coverage of its competitors in favour of reviews and more reviews.
Michael Dervan Irish Times
Your new magazine has flown out of the door on its very first day of sale. We would like to order more copies to arrive as soon as possible please.
McAlister Matheson Music Edinburgh, Scotland
The magazine defines itself by reviews that are longer and more substantial than the prevailing norm and as opinionated as reviews ought to be.
Richard Dyer Boston Globe
Fed up with second-rate music mags? The new International Record Review is now out we think it's jolly good.
