GIULIANI, Mauro
b near Bari, 27 July 1782
d Naples, 8 May 1829, aged forty-seven

He studied cello and counterpoint, and became a brilliant guitarist. Italy being full of guitarists at that time, he moved to Vienna in 1796 in order to make a living. He wrote nearly 150 works with opus numbers and seventy without. He was made virtuoso onorario di camera for Napoleon's second wife in about 1814. In 1819, heavily in debt, he returned to Italy.

His output included: three guitar concertos with orchestra; chamber music, which always included the guitar; solo guitar works and songs with guitar accompaniment.
