FRICKER, Peter Racine
b London, 5 September 1920
d Santa Barbara, CA, 1 February 1990, aged seventy

He was educated at St Paul's School and intended to join the Navy, but was rejected because of poor eyesight. He went to the Royal College of Music in 1937. In 1941 he joined the Royal Air Force as a radio operator. When he was demobilised in 1945 he went to Morley College, where the director, Tippett, suggested he studied with Seiber. In 1952 he became director of Morley College, and from 1955 taught composition at the Royal College. From 1964 to 1965 he was visiting professor of music at the University of California; he became a full-time professor there, and in 1970 was made chairman of the music department.
