There is little that John Dankworth gets involved in that doesn’t become a musical delight. I have been a fan since the days of the Seven, through the Big Band, to the supporting music for Cleo Laine and the many other musical ventures that the now, Sir John Dankworth, has been involved with over his long musical career. Each of these musical adventures has been a delight for those of us who like his kind of music.

In the same way Julian Lloyd Webber is revered for making the Cello a popular instrument to play again, and as in the case of John being known as a virtuoso performer and a man of good taste in all things.

So how do they do together, this is a charming album of music, it doesn’t fit neatly into any musical category, but then it would have failed if it did. It does prove the point beyond all doubt, that high quality musicians of any genre can play together as long as everyone is prepared to compromise in what they perform. John Dankworth made an excellent job of those compromises in writing this delightful music.
