The jazz fans of either traditional or modern jazz that can see no good in the other group's music have done jazz a great harm over the years by exaggerating the differences and ignoring the common base of improvisation. The musicians don't feel these stylistic barriers so why do the fans?

On the face of it an album featuring Sammy Price, who played for many years in Mezz Mezzrow's band and is known for his blues and boogie piano playing and Lucky Thompson one of the most sophisticated of modern tenor, should not have worked out. Work out it did however and without ever producing anything of earth shattering importance, they have produced this very pleasant album. The rhythm section is good; it has a nice light touch and always swings along. How Long Blues shows everyone of to good effect and has a good vocal from Sammy Price. Lucky Thompson was a very fine tenor player and it is to be hoped that many more of his previous albums will be re-released in CD format.

As was said earlier, stylistic difference is not a problem for the musicians, only some of the fans!
