Dominy Clements

Dominy Clements was born in Newport,
Monmouthshire in 1964. He trained as
a flautist through the excellent South
Wales music education system, and subsequently
at the Royal Academy of Music in London
(www.ram.ac.uk). He studied flute with
Gareth Morris and Richard Taylor, and
composition with Christopher Brown and
Edward Gregson, following this with
two years study with Louis Andriessen
and Gilius van Bergeijk at the Royal
Conservatoire in The Hague (www.koncon.nl).
He has won several awards as a composer,
and has work published by Donemus (www.donemus.nl)
the Experimental Music Catalogue (www.experimentalmusic.co.uk),
Edition DB (www.editiondb.com), and
his piece 'Extant-Extinct' is to be
found on issue UP16 on the Unknown Public
label (www.unknownpublic.com). He currently
works at the Royal Conservatoire as
manager of the Podiumbureau, as head
of department for the Trias centre for
the arts in Voorburg (www.stichting-trias.nl),
and as a freelance musician in The Netherlands
and abroad. He performs with Duo Hofinger
(piano and flute), trio Lautareasca
(www.lautareasca.com) and plays subcontrabass
flute (see photo) with the Netherlands
Flute Orchestra (www.hetnederlandsfluitorkest.nl).
He has recently added writing to his
creative output and has had a number
of stories published. This came about
largely in order to avoid the agony
of having to find musicians willing
to play, and concert halls willing to
programme new music. One day, he promises
to finish his own website (www.freewebs.com/iptych).
